Welcome to Free Beat!
I started Free Beat as an outlet for my creative side. As a drummer of 20 years, I'd been in and out of a lot of bands, but never really felt like I was able to share my creations properly.
With Free Beat, it's all about getting creative with a multitude of gear. Whether it be playing drums, programming/sequencing, or working on full tracks, I try to show you as much of my workflow as possible.
I'm still new to a lot of the synthesizer world, so most of my content is based on practicality, and actionable practices you can take to improve your own music!
I upload new content every single day, so be sure to subscribe. After all, it's free!.................beat. Get it?

Unsynced Budget Electronic Music Gear Jam! (Sunday Sessions #162)
Unsynced Budget Electronic Music Gear Jam! (Sunday Sessions #162)
Welcome to Sunday Sessions, where the script is tossed out and we get right into the jamming! Today I decided to bust out the Volca Drum and the PO-128 Megaman, but I wound up jamming with them unsynced! Sometimes I actually prefer to leave my gear unsynced, just so I can have some natural tension between the sequencers, and I feel like this jam demonstrates that pretty well! Enjoy the video :)

How This MIDI Pedal Saved my Live Rig! (Morningstar MC6 Pro) Today I'm going to show you just how the Morningstar MC6 Pro saved my live rig, and allowed me to execute a live show that I'm proud of! This MIDI controller is an absolutely beast, with so many different IO options, a ridiculous amount of commands that it can send, and incredibly in-depth but easy to use editing software, I can't bel...

Working the Woovebox (Sunday Sessions #161) Welcome to Sunday Sessions, where the script is tossed out and we get right into the jamming! Today I decided to bust out the Woovebox! It's been a long time since I've featured the Woovebox on the channel, but rest assured it's still one of my favorite grooveboxes, and can crank out some awesome sounds. I particularly like the bass synth in this jam!...

Budget Synth Fun! (Sunday Sessions #160) Welcome to Sunday Sessions, where the script is tossed out and we get right into the jamming! Today I decided to bust out one of my favorite budget synth combos, the Volca Keys and NTS-1! Of course, the NTS-1 elevates just about anything you plug into it, but the simplicity of the Volca Keys lends itself incredibly well to the NTS-1's effects section, an...
SmplTrek as a Three Track Recorder!

SmplTrek as a Three Track Recorder! Today I want to show how you can use the SmplTrek as a three track recorder! While you do need to use a "normal" track to set up your song structure, it is entirely possible to use the three audio tracks to record a full song. With the right use of input effects, you can stretch those three tracks even further! I also forgot to mention it in the video, but yo...

A Reminder That the PO-32 is Still SO Much Fun! (Sunday Sessions #159) Welcome to Sunday Sessions, where the script is tossed out and we get right into the jamming! Today I decided to bust out the PO-32 Tonic, which is one of my favorite Pocket Operators, and still one of the best drum machines under $500 in my opinion! The major selling point of the PO-32 is that you can swap the sounds out wi...

Budget Modular Drums are Fun, but I'm Bad at Them (Sunday Sessions #158) Welcome to Sunday Sessions, where the script is tossed out and we get right into the jamming! Today I decided to bust out the Bastl Kastle Drum for some budget modular fun! I also ran it through the NTS-1's effects section, just to spice it up a bit. While I'm terrible at modular, I always have a blast when I mess around w...
I Played my First Electronic Music Live Show!

I Played my First Electronic Music Live Show Last weekend I played my first ever electronic music live show! The show itself was to a very small crowd of about 10 people or so, which wound up being a huge blessing since there were quite a lot mistakes and other bumps along the way. However, I now have a very pinpointed list of things I need to work on and/or implement before I play live again, ...

Electronic Music Live Rig Tour (2024) Welcome to my 2024 live rig tour! With my first show as Free Beat fast approaching, I figured I'd finally go over all of the components of my live rig. More than just gear, today we're talking about some rules I have for my set, a guiding principle I used while building the rig and the set, transportation, and more! Enjoy the video :) My favorite gear in on...

Budget Glitchy Drums Jam (Sunday Sessions #157) Welcome to Sunday Sessions, where the script is tossed out and we get right into the jamming! Today I decided to bust out the Korg Volca Drum and the Roland E-4 for a glitchy jam! The E-4 is just such a fun effects box, you never quite know how it's going to sound with something until you try it. These two paired up well, and I'll definitely be re...

amazing!
Barry Manilow would love this.
Great video. Currently building a midi controller with Arudino Leonardo and curious if I can use it with a synth that can be used as a MIDI host.
To say that, you've never tried a Mini Moog (or the Behringer clone Model D)
As a drummer myself, I’m confused as to why separate tracks is an issue… we practice for years to get all four limbs to work together, the circuit does that for you.
Very cool idea!
You cant loop it ?
Is this better than Volca Beat ?
Hi bro, what about shaker ? How should I do that ? Is possible to let them shortly like closed hats as well ?
👍👍👍‼️‼️‼️🙏🙏
i hope every new mk2 owner sees this
Soketimes its really refreshing to give sync a rest, and be fully human
i don't even know how to sync my Arturia synth to my Arturia drum machine. i even have that Arturia keystep thing. no god darn clue.
Fun jam!
That's a very nitpicky reason. You could always just copy all drum patterns at the same time, it's only 6 extra pad taps.
I just got a Volca drum and decided to watch some of your videos and I most say that this honestly is the golden standard of UA-cam tutorials. Korg should pay you for this.
Hahaha thanks so much!
Thanks for the video! Between this model and M-Audio Oxygen Pro 49 what would recommend? : )
I've never used the Oxygen Pro 49 so I can't really make a pick, sorry!
What a beast of a machine! But I get a bit anxious thinking of all things that could go wrong with such an advanced gear!XD
Luckily the UI is fairly simple! If something goes wrong, it's super easy to go and find the issue.
What happened to the Sheeran looper?
You're a few live rig videos behind :D lol. Basically while the Sheeran Looper X hardware is incredibly, software wise it's sorely lacking. It's missing some pretty basic workflow options, as well as being really inconsistent with glitching when overdubbing. The Boss also has 6 tracks (Sheeran X has 4) and has an insane level of customization!
I see that. I tried and didn’t work ;) but I have another question for you if you don’t mind.: I struggle to recognize which sound is which after all the slots are occupied on the edit mode for the drums .. I tried slowing the bpm but it does not work for me… All this on the context of making a variation of a pattern after being copied to a new slot to do so.
Sorry I'm not sure I'm understanding what you mean
@@FreeBeat let’s say you have a pattern and sounds awesome. Then you copy the pattern to another slot because you want to make a variation of it . When I got to edit mode all I see is all led lights are lit… and when I start deactivating and activating back I loose track of which slot I used for certain sound. I would say, how do you remember that this particular slot is this sound, and this slot is another one;))🫣
Nice Setup man!
Thank you!
Very cool setup and story.
Thanks!
I didn't even know this type of pedal exist, it looks cool! I see there are other models that may suit better my budget. 😅 Thanks for sharing!
Yeah they have some less expensive versions that are still SUPER powerful! The MC3 can do up to 16 commands at once/sequentially, that's still a ton lol.
I need it… 😭
It's definitely awesome, but don't let GAS take control!
i have mpc live 2. will it power the controller in standalone mode, aka no mains to the mpc live connected? thanks.
I just noticed that they have changed up some of the newer mpc marketing images. When the mpc one first came out, the step sequencer seemed to be THE screen featured an all of the product images.
I think it makes perfect sense 🙂
Please talk to Ivo and make another tutorial with new features like vocoder.
I honestly haven't used the vocoder yet, I need to give it a shot!
It’s Dave Stewart in a box. Gonna say it again, Sonicware are sleeping on expanding this unique workflow
Yeah that workflow is pretty sweet! You can also export your tracks to work on them in other places too!
A tutorial where most of the time spent is off topic. The topic part is minimal and not at all in depth. But thx.
I didn't have to do anything to the roland s1 all i had to do is change the click settings on the MC and then go to ports and click on STD out on the MC .
Thanks for watching!
What kind of severe mental disorder combo results in buying P0s? :/
gnarly 303 style bassline!
Thanks!
And all that noise was comin' out of the OP-Z? So what you're telling me is there's enough smarts in that little grey TV remote that it might actually be worth what T.E. is charging for it? 😀 Pretty hip jam, by the by...
The OP-Z is absolutely a little monster, but the build quality leaves a LOT to be desired.
Is this tech from another planet?! What on Earth??
Hahaha it's pretty epic for the size and price!
Farfisa actually made a smaller set of pedals that went with some of their combo Organs. The back area was very small. I’m sure that they could be converted to midi.
I tried the 12 Step 2 and it was only slightly more responsive even with the sensitivity set at 100%. Sent them back.
Oof, bummer to hear about the 12Step 2. Thanks for the heads up!
Hello! I wonder if I can use the same key combo you use to sample drum kits slots, to get new sounds on the PO-35. Do you think is possible?
That won't work, the PO-35 handles recorded audio in a completely different way :)
I purchased a PO 33 through your link, can't wait to make some proper beats! E
Awesome, thank you! Have fun and feel free to ask any questions :)
Very cool Session!✌
Thanks Wigges!
Funny how roland implemented all this.years ago in their mvs. Its slow but fewture wise it was never beaten even today the new sps is just a amateur device in comparison.
Really great! I’m new to the woovebox and I don’t understand why not more people use it! 🤘
It's pretty terrific!
Well done!
Thanks!
Ironically I sold mine because I was daunted by the l arming curve and I also managed to get a very good price on an almost unused secondhand mpc one. I even sold my beloved mc101 😮
The thing I like about the Woovebox is that you *can* get super deep with it, but it's also a great tool for just surface level jamming like this, without having to learn hardly anything. I totally get that it's not for everyone though. Thanks for watching!
@@FreeBeat I’m now working my way through your MPC one tutorials😀
To stop the bending issue: 1. Measure the gap between the OPZ and the flat surface it sits on. 2. Go to a hardware store and purchase a 'washer' of the same width as the gap. 3. Glue it to the back of the OPZ. 4. Problem solved. Stop complaining and go make music.
If only this were available to buy ☹
I know more are on the way, just not sure when, sorry!
what do you think would happen if you patched everything together?
Finally! Is it internal sound bank?
Yup! Almost everything is just the internal synth engines!
@@FreeBeat Amazing!
